Mercyful Fate è un gruppo heavy metal danese formatosi a Copenaghen nel 1980. Considerati pionieri del genere black metal, hanno influenzato profondamente la scena musicale successiva con il loro sound oscuro e teatrale. Il gruppo è stato fondato da King Diamond (voce) e Hank Shermann (chitarra), che si sono uniti a Michael Denner (chitarra) e Timi Hansen (basso).
