Hirax è una band di thrash metal americana proveniente da Cypress, in California. Formatasi nel 1982 sotto la guida del vocalist Katon W. De Pena (il personaggio più distintivo della band e l'unico membro originale ancora presente nella formazione attuale), la band ha suonato a Los Angeles e San Francisco con altre nuove band di thrash metal dell'epoca come Metallica, Exodus e Slayer. Hirax è stata un chiaro esempio del genere thrash/speed metal/crossover. La loro musica è caratterizzata da riff veloci, testi aggressivi e una forte energia live. Tra i brani più rappresentativi si ricordano "The Thrashing", "Do or Die" e "Death Wish".
