Darkthrone è una band black metal norvegese formatasi nel 1987. Inizialmente un gruppo death metal, ha abbracciato lo stile black metal nel 1991, diventando una forza trainante della scena black metal norvegese. Per la maggior parte del suo percorso, Darkthrone è stato composto da due musicisti: Nocturno Culto e Fenriz, che hanno cercato di rimanere fuori dal mainstream musicale. Dal 2006 il loro lavoro ha incorporato elementi crust punk. Tra i brani più rappresentativi si ricordano *Transilvanian Hunger*, *Ravn* e *The Serpent's Tongue*. Tra gli album importanti: *A Blaze in the Northern Sky* (1994) e *Panzerfaust* (1995).
