Rock 'n' roll cities
The Kinks sind eine britische Rockband, die 1963 in London gegründet und bis 1996 aktiv war. Sie gelten als eine der einflussreichsten Bands der British Invasion und hinterließen mit ihrem charakteristischen Sound, der eingängige Pop-Melodien mit nachdenklichen und oft satirischen Texten verband, einen bleibenden Eindruck auf die Rockmusik. Die ursprüngliche Besetzung bestand aus Ray Davies (Gesang, Gitarre), Dave Davies (Gitarre), Mick Avory (Schlagzeug) und Pete Quaife (Bass). Quaife wurde 1966 durch John Dalton ersetzt und schließlich 1969 endgültig durch ihn. The Kinks veröffentlichten eine umfangreiche Diskografie mit erfolgreichen Alben, darunter "Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society" (1969), "Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround" (1970) und "Sleepwalker" (1973). Zu ihren bekanntesten Songs gehören "You Really Got Me", "All Day and All of the Night", "Waterloo Sunset", "Lola" und "Days". The Kinks wurden 1990 in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen.
