The Temptations sind eine amerikanische Vokalgruppe, die 1960 in Detroit, Michigan, gegründet wurde. Sie gelten als eine der einflussreichsten Soul-Gruppen aller Zeiten und haben maßgeblich zur Entwicklung des Motown Sounds beigetragen, einer Fusion aus R and B, Pop und psychedelischem Rock. Ihr unverwechselbarer Stil zeichnet sich durch perfekte Gesangsharmonien, synchronisierte Choreografien und Texte aus, die Themen wie Liebe, Verlust und Hoffnung behandeln. Zu den bekanntesten Songs der Temptations gehören "My Girl", "Ain't Too Proud to Beg", "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" und "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone". Die Gruppe hat weltweit über 100 Millionen Platten verkauft und zahlreiche Preise und Auszeichnungen erhalten, darunter einen Platz in der Rock and Roll Hall of Fame im Jahr 1989. Die ursprüngliche Besetzung umfasste Otis Williams, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin und David Ruffin.
