The Libertines sind eine englische Indie-Rock-Band, die 1997 in London gegründet wurde. Die ursprüngliche Besetzung bestand aus Pete Doherty (Gesang, Gitarre), Carl Barat (Gitarre, Gesang), John Hassall (Bass) und Gary Powell (Schlagzeug). Die Band erreichte mit ihrem selbstbetitelten Debütalbum im Jahr 2002 den Durchbruch. Es war von einem energiegeladenen Sound geprägt, der Einflüsse aus Garage Rock, Punk Revival und Pop-Melodien vereinte. Zu ihren bekanntesten Songs gehören "Time for Heroes", "Can't Stand Me Now" und "Don't Look Back into the Sun".
