Mark Freuder Knopfler (* 12. August 1949) ist ein britischer Singer-Songwriter, Gitarrist, Komponist und Musikproduzent. Bekannt für seine raffinierte Gitarrentechnik und seine eingängigen Melodien erlangte er internationale Bekanntheit als Frontmann der Band Dire Straits, mit der er weltweit über 120 Millionen Alben verkaufte. Knopfler gilt als einer der einflussreichsten Gitarristen der Rockgeschichte und wird geschätzt für seine Fähigkeit, durch Fingerpicking-Techniken und Arpeggien eindrucksvolle und komplexe Atmosphären zu schaffen.
