Down By Law ist eine Punk-Rock-Band, die um 1990 gegründet wurde. Der Frontmann Dave Smalley, bereits bekannt für seine Arbeit mit Dag Nasty, arbeitete mit den Mitgliedern von Chemical People an ihrem Debütalbum zusammen und durchlief im Laufe der Jahre mehrere Besetzungswechsel. Mit Epitaph Records starteten sie ihren selbstbetitelten ersten LP und blieben bis „Last of the Sharpshooters“ 1997 auf demselben Label. Ein kurzer Aufenthalt bei Go Kart Records brachte die Veröffentlichung von „Fly the Flag“ hervor, und jetzt, mit ihrer neuesten Veröffentlichung „Windward Tides and Wayward Sails“ aus dem Jahr 2003, sind sie bei Union Label Group unter Vertrag.
