Ray Charles Robinson (23. September 1930 – 10. Juni 2004) war ein legendärer amerikanischer Sänger, Songwriter und Pianist, der als einer der Pioniere der Soul-Musik gilt. Geboren in Albany, Georgia, verlor Charles im Alter von fünf Jahren das Sehvermögen. Seine Musik, geprägt von einer kraftvollen Blues-Stimme und Einflüssen aus Gospel, Jazz und R and B, revolutionierte das amerikanische Musikklima in den 1950er und 1960er Jahren. Zu seinen bekanntesten Hits gehören "What'd I Say", "Georgia on My Mind" und "Hit the Road Jack".
