Ceremonial Oath è stata una band svedese di extreme metal formatasi all'inizio del 1989 sotto il nome "Desecrator". Si sono sciolti nel 1995 dopo aver pubblicato due demo, un EP e due album in studio. Nonostante la breve durata, l'influenza della band è stata significativa: ha riunito alcuni dei musicisti che avrebbero poi formato In Flames, un gruppo influente nel genere melodic death metal. Ceremonial Oath si distingue per il suo sound crudo e aggressivo, caratterizzato da riff pesanti, batteria potente e vocalità gutturali. Il loro stile musicale mescolava elementi di thrash metal, death metal e black metal, anticipando le sonorità che avrebbero poi definito il melodic death metal.
