Sonic Youth war eine amerikanische Band des Alternative/Noise Rock, die 1981 in New York gegründet wurde. Die Band, bestehend aus Kim Gordon (Bass, Gesang), Thurston Moore (Gitarre, Gesang), Lee Ranaldo (Gitarre, Gesang) und Steve Shelley (Schlagzeug), revolutionierte das Musikklima der 1980er und 1990er Jahre mit einem experimentellen Sound, der Elemente des Punk Rock, Noise, Avantgarde und elektronischer Musik vermischte.
