Boogie Down Productions war eine amerikanische Hip-Hop-Gruppe, die in den 1980er und 1990er Jahren aktiv war und als einer der Wegbereiter des Hardcore-Raps und des politisch engagierten Hip-Hops gilt. Die Gruppe wurde vom Rapper KRS-One (Lawrence Krisna Parker) angeführt, der für seine intellektuellen Texte und sein soziales Engagement bekannt ist. Ihr Debütalbum *Criminal Minded* (1987) gilt als Klassiker des Hardcore-Rap-Genres und zeichnet sich durch aggressive Texte und schnelle Tempi aus. Tragischerweise wurde das Album bald von einer Tragödie überschattet: DJ Scott La Rock, ein wichtiger Mitglied der Gruppe, wurde im Alter von nur 20 Jahren während einer Auseinandersetzung zwischen Gangs ermordet. La Rocks Tod traf KRS-One und die Gruppe tief, und sie setzten ihre musikalische Arbeit bis in die 1990er Jahre fort, wobei sie sich weiterhin für soziale Anliegen einsetzten.
