Sam Cooke (1931-1964) è stato un leggendario cantante, compositore e produttore discografico statunitense, considerato uno dei pionieri del soul music. Nato a Clarksdale, Mississippi, Cooke iniziò la sua carriera musicale cantando gospel nella chiesa locale. Nel 1957, firmò con il label Saratoga Records, pubblicando successi come "You Send Me" che lo consacrò come una stella pop. Cooke ha poi fondato la propria etichetta discografica, The Soul Stirrers, continuando a incidere brani gospel di grande successo.
