Darkwell è una band di gothic metal proveniente da Innsbruck, Austria. Fondata nel 1999 dal bassista Roland Wurzer e dal chitarrista Roman Wiencke, ha firmato rapidamente con Napalm Records e ha pubblicato il suo album di debutto *Suspiria* nel 2000. Prima dell'uscita di *Conflict of Interest* nel 2002, hanno fatto tour in Europa con Tristania, The Sins of Thy Beloved, Graveworm e Vintersorg. A supporto del loro secondo album in studio, *Metatron*, hanno nuovamente fatto tour in Europa, questa volta con Atrocity, Leaves Eyes e Battlelore. Tra i brani più rappresentativi si ricordano *The Serpent's Kiss*, *A Shadow Falls* e *Through the Veil*.
