Bruce Cockburn è un cantautore canadese nato nel 1945. Iniziò la sua carriera negli anni '60, pubblicando album folk influenzati da artisti come Bob Dylan e Joni Mitchell. Nel corso degli anni '70, le sue canzoni hanno spesso esplorato temi di fede cristiana, ma in modo non didascalico, mettendo l'accento sulla compassione per il prossimo. Negli anni '80, la sua musica si è fatta più politica, con brani come "If I Had A Rocket Launcher", ispirati dalla sua esperienza in un campo profughi guatemalteco per conto di Oxfam.
