Biografia

Johnny Cash (Kingsland, Arkansas, 26 febbraio 1932 – Nashville, Tennessee, 12 settembre 2003) è stato un cantante, musicista e attore statunitense, considerato uno dei più influenti artisti della musica country. Nato in una famiglia contadina del profondo sud, Cash iniziò a cantare nella chiesa locale e ad ascoltare la musica country alla radio. Dopo il servizio militare in Germania, dove imparò a suonare la chitarra, si trasferì a Memphis e iniziò la sua carriera musicale. Il suo stile unico, caratterizzato da un'intensa voce baritonale e testi spesso autobiografici che affrontavano temi come la povertà, la giustizia sociale e la lotta contro le dipendenze, lo rese rapidamente popolare. Tra i suoi brani più famosi figurano "Ring of Fire", "I Walk the Line", "Folsom Prison Blues" e "A Boy Named Sue". Cash ha collaborato con numerosi artisti, tra cui June Carter Cash, sua moglie dal 1968 fino alla sua morte. Ha vinto numerosi premi, tra cui il Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award nel 1997.
