The Pogues sind eine anglo-irische Folk-Punk-Band, die in den 1980er und 1990er Jahren aktiv war. Gegründet wurde die Band 1982 in London von Shane MacGowan (Sänger) und Jem Finer (Gitarre). Die Pogues mischten traditionelle irische Einflüsse mit einem energiegeladenen Rocksound, was ihnen einen einzigartigen Stil einbrachte. Ihr Sound, den MacGowan selbst als „irische Musik für ein junges Rockpublikum“ beschrieb, zeichnet sich durch eingängige Melodien, oft melancholische und tiefgründige Texte und eine starke soziale Protestkomponente aus.
