The Police waren eine der größten New-Wave-Bands der Welt in den frühen 80er Jahren und wurden für ihren reggae-beeinflussten Pop geschätzt. Gegründet 1977 in London von Sting (Gesang, Bass), Andy Summers (Gitarre) und Stewart Copeland (Schlagzeug), erreichte die Band internationalen Erfolg mit ihrem Album "Outlandos d'Amour" aus dem Jahr 1978. Ihr Sound, der sich durch eingängige Melodien, nachdenkliche Texte und eine Mischung aus Reggae, Rock und Pop auszeichnet, eroberte Millionen von Fans auf der ganzen Welt. Zu ihren wichtigsten Alben gehören "Reggatta de Blanc" (1979), "Zenyatta Mondatta" (1980) und "Synchronicity" (1983). Nach einer Pause 1986 tourten The Police 2007-2008 wieder zusammen.
