Peter Joseph Andrew Hammill (geboren am 19. August 1948) ist ein britischer Singer-Songwriter, Keyboarder und Multiinstrumentalist, der vor allem als Frontmann von Van der Graaf Generator und für seine produktive Solokarriere bekannt ist. Hammill begann im Alter von sieben Jahren, Musik zu spielen, beeinflusst von Künstlern wie Bob Dylan und The Beatles. 1967 gründete er Van der Graaf Generator, eine Progressive-Rock-Band, die in den 1970er Jahren mit Alben wie „Pawn Hearts“ (1972) und „Godbluff“ (1970) großen Erfolg hatte. Hammill ist für seinen einzigartigen, kraftvollen und theatralischen Gesangsstil bekannt, der oft von komplexen und nachdenklichen Texten begleitet wird.
