I Cowboy Junkies sono una band canadese di country rock formatasi a Toronto nel 1985. I membri fondatori sono i fratelli Margo (voce), Michael (chitarra, compositore) e Peter Timmins (batteria), insieme al loro amico d'infanzia Alan Anton (basso). Il nome della band è probabilmente ispirato dalla canzone di Townes Van Zandt "Cowboy Junkies Lament", anche se il brano è stato scritto nel 1989, dopo la formazione del gruppo. I Cowboy Junkies sono noti per il loro sound introspettivo e malinconico, influenzato dal folk americano e dal country tradizionale. Tra i loro album più importanti ricordiamo "The Trinity Session" (1988), un disco di grande successo che ha consacrato la band al pubblico internazionale. Altri brani rappresentativi includono "Sweet Jane", "If You Really Want To Know" e "A Common Disaster".
