Mates of State è un duo musicale formatosi nel 1997 da Kori Gardner (tastiere e voce) e Jason Hammel (batteria e voce). Entrambi provenivano dalla scena musicale di Lawrence, Kansas, dove già suonavano chitarra e cantavano.
