The Libertines sono un gruppo musicale inglese di indie rock formatosi a Londra nel 1997. Il nucleo originale era composto da Pete Doherty (voce, chitarra), Carl Barat (chitarra, voce), John Hassall (basso) e Gary Powell (batteria). La band ha raggiunto il successo con l'album d'esordio omonimo del 2002, caratterizzato da un sound energico che mescolava influenze garage rock, punk revival e melodie pop. Tra i brani più noti figurano "Time for Heroes", "Can't Stand Me Now" e "Don't Look Back into the Sun". Dopo una serie di problemi interni e personali, inclusi quelli legati all'alcolismo e alle droghe di Doherty, The Libertines si sono sciolti nel 2005.
