Pussy Riot è un collettivo punk rock russo femminista e politicamente impegnato che agisce sotto rigoroso anonimato. Attivo a Mosca, il gruppo si distingue per flash mob e performance estemporanee attraverso cui espone provocazioni politiche contro l'establishment politico e istituzionale. Tra i temi affrontati: la situazione delle donne in Russia e, più recentemente, le campagne elettorali di Vladimir Putin. Nel marzo 2012, tre membri del collettivo sono state arrestate per aver eseguito un'esibizione non autorizzata nella Cattedrale di Cristo Salvatore contro Putin. Accuse di "teppismo e istigazione all'odio religioso" hanno portato a un processo breve e mediatico, con la sentenza che le ha condannate a due anni di reclusione. Il caso ha suscitato attenzione internazionale per le accuse di trattamenti brutali durante la custodia e la minaccia di pene severe contro il dissenso in Russia. La performance è stata contestata da una parte della società russa come offesa alla sensibilità religiosa e alle tradizioni, con l'intervento pubblico del patriarca Cirillo I che ha condannato il gesto blasfemo. Tra le canzoni più rappresentative: "Punk Prayer", "Make Way for Pussy Riot" e "Revolution".
