Captain Beyond è stata una band rock americana attiva tra il 1972 e il 1973. Il gruppo era composto da Rod Evans (voce), Larry "Rhino" Reinhardt (chitarra), Lee Dorman (basso) e Bobby Caldwell (batteria). Evans era stato il cantante dei Deep Purple durante la registrazione del loro album di debutto, che includeva l'hit "Hush". Reinhardt e Dorman avevano suonato con Iron Butterfly, mentre Caldwell aveva collaborato con Johnny Winter. Il primo album omonimo della band è uscito nel 1972. Dopo questo disco, Caldwell lasciò il gruppo per unirsi a Derringer e fu sostituito da Brian Glascock alla batteria. Reese Wynans (Double Trouble) si unì come tastierista e Guille Garcia come percussionista. Durante la registrazione del secondo album, "Sufficiently Breathless", Evans lasciò la band a causa di tensioni interne. La formazione originale si riunì per un tour negli Stati Uniti nel 1973, ma il gruppo si sciolse alla fine dell'anno.
