Avantasia ist ein Projekt des Genres Symphonic Metal und Power Metal, das von Tobias Sammet, dem Sänger und Frontmann der Power-Metal-Band Edguy, gegründet wurde. Der Name des Projekts, eine Kombination aus den Wörtern „Avalon“ und „Fantasie“, beschreibt „eine Welt jenseits menschlicher Vorstellungskraft“ (Zitat aus dem Booklet). Avantasia besteht aus einer gleichnamigen Single, zwei Studioalben mit dem Untertitel *The Metal Opera*, zwei EPs namens *Lost in Space* und der kürzlich veröffentlichten Trilogie *Scarecrow*. Sammet hat zahlreiche Gäste an dem Projekt beteiligt, darunter Oliver Hartmann, Michael Kiske, Kai Hansen und Jorn Lande. Avantasia gilt als eines der wichtigsten Projekte des Symphonic-Metal-Genres und wird für seine epischen Melodien, die fantastischen Texte und die hochwertige Produktion geschätzt. Zu den bekanntesten Songs gehören *The Great Mystery*, *Dying For An Angel* und *Starlight*.
