Avantasia è un progetto musicale di power metal e symphonic metal creato da Tobias Sammet, vocalist e frontman del gruppo power metal Edguy. Il nome del progetto, un portmanteau delle parole 'avalon' e 'fantasia', descrive «un mondo al di là dell'immaginazione umana» (citazione dal booklet). Avantasia si compone di un singolo omonimo, due album in studio intitolati *The Metal Opera*, due EP chiamati *Lost in Space* e la recente trilogia *Scarecrow*. Sammet ha coinvolto nel progetto numerosi ospiti, tra cui Oliver Hartmann, Michael Kiske, Kai Hansen e Jorn Lande.
