The Like sono un gruppo alternative rock statunitense formatosi a Los Angeles (California) nel settembre 2001. Il trio è composto da Elizabeth "Z" Berg (voce, chitarra), Charlotte Froom e Tennessee Thomas (batteria). Tutte e tre provengono da famiglie immerse nella musica: la Berg è figlia del produttore Tony Berg, mentre Froom e Thomas sono figlie di Mitchell Froom e Pete Thomas, rispettivamente. Il nome della band deriva da un'osservazione della madre di Thomas riguardo all'uso frequente della parola "like" dalle ragazze. Dopo aver pubblicato tre EP indipendenti tra il 2001 e il 2004, The Like hanno ottenuto la notorietà grazie alla canzone "(So I'll Sit Here) Waiting", utilizzata come colonna sonora del film *Thirteen*. La canzone ha attirato l'attenzione dei media e ha portato a collaborazioni con artisti come i Phantom Planet e i Kings of Leon. Nel 2004, The Like hanno firmato un contratto con la Geffen Records.
