Bathory war eine schwedische Heavy-Metal-Band, die 1983 von Quorthon (echter Name Lars-Göran Petrov) gegründet wurde. Sie gelten als Pioniere sowohl des Black Metals als auch des Viking Metals und haben den Underground-Musikszene maßgeblich beeinflusst. Der Bandname stammt von der berüchtigten ungarischen Gräfin Elisabeth Bathory, die für ihre blutigen Praktiken und die Legende bekannt ist, die sie umgibt. Bathory veröffentlichte eine Reihe wichtiger Alben, darunter "Blood Fire Death" (1987), das als Meilenstein des Black Metals gilt, und "Hammerheart" (1990), der Folk- und Viking-Elemente einführte.
